Mentoring program
In the mentoring program the volunteer mentors meet weekly with their mentees and work together for the commonly defined goals, such as practising Hungarian, discovering the city, managing everyday issues or simply answering questions that are coming about living here. So we can see them ‘working’ together by walking, discussing, studying or playing board games. The aim is that refugees and immigrants living in Hungary find their place and become successful members of our society.
Mentors are locals, Hungarians or foreigners, who feel already at home in Hungary. They know how to settle different matters, for example how to find a doctor, how to open a bank account or how to register for kindergarten. They know which are the good places to go out, where you can learn to play guitar and they are open to the new.
Would you like to try it out and become a volunteer mentor? If you want to be a mentor, to join the mentor program you have to take part in a training. We launch a training if we have at least 15 applicants.
Learning program
Among the members of MIRA there are foreigners who have been living here for a shorter or longer period of time and also refugees who have recently arrived to Hungary. For them to feel like a part of society it is very important to learn Hungarian quickly and well. Sometimes English comes also well to start their professional life. For the voluntary teachers we offer a preparatory training and regular exchange of experiences will be possible during the program. Training is launched when at least 15 people come together. Success for us is not necessarily when somebody passes a language exam, but when we see that the students can express themselves with more confidence and as a result, they find a job or succeed in school.
Besides this, being part of a colourful community you can practice not only Hungarian, English but other foreign languages (Arabic, Farsi, Spanish, French) as well in small learning groups and at the open Tandem Nights as well. Our volunteers are giving tutoring classes for those who would like to pass a driving licence exam.
Community
MiraDoor
Because we need space – We are running MiraDoor, our community space together with Open Doors Hungary. Here we organise regularly movie club, discussions, board game nights where we can meet, learn about cultures and the world we are living in. MiraDoor gives home too our celebrations, the Persian New Year, the community events and to the Christmas. It is a creative space that gives space to encounter and learning. Our programs are open and we are as well: If you have an idea you can initiate an activity and shape our programs.
MIRA FC
Our football team, the MIRA FC has been training since 2017 with the leading of Reza Sayed Mustafa. We took part in a local footbal championship in 2019. We are looking forward to our new competitors who would like to play with us! Besides the football we have yoga twice in a week in MIraDoor, thank to the members of Adnijóga.
Taste MIRA!
Taste Mira! is a series of event where you can find cooking classes, special dinners and everything around food and culture. In our home restaurant you can learn about cultures through food and cooking, you can meet new people and learn their stories, you can learn new recepies and you can really taste intercultural.
Would you like to reserve a place? Taste Mira! is a fundraising opportunity for us. With your conribution we can support the memebrs of MIRA who are cooking for you, and we can sustain our community space, MiraDoor.
Creative Hub
In this initiative we invite our members to hold creative workshops. For this, all the support will be given by us – the MIRA and the Open Doors team. In our Hub there is place to make Afghan Kites, to sew with Iranian, Hungarian or Egyptian motivs, and even the fusion of these all – because diversity is inspiring.
