A few days after the actual Mexican day of the dead, we had the opportunity to discover thanks to our Mexican teacher Elena what is the meaning of this day in her country.

Those who assisted in the “Mexican day of Dead” on the 7th of October found different films related to it. Later, as if it was a language class, Elena gave us a lesson of each element as well as presented us with the name in Spanish (some of them with a difficult pronunciation). The event was bilingual, and everything was translated from English to Spanish so everyone could join it.

Finally, we tasted a traditional food that is only baked in Mexico for these days (from the 31st of October to the 2nd of November), the “Pan de Muerto” which means “Bread of the dead.” Depending on the part of Mexico, the recipe may vary. However, it is usually prepared with flour, eggs, sugar, water, butter, salt, orange zest, and yeast.

We spent together a cozy afternoon!
